PRE-SEA TRAINING
IMS offers pre-sea training for Deck and Engine Cadets and GP-III, which provides the necessary introduction, preparation, character and grooming for entering into a Maritime career.
The Training Courses have been structured specifically to meet the professional career-oriented goals of STCW-78 as amended 1995 and (Manila Amendments 2010). The recommendations of the ILO/IMO document of guidance 1985 and MLC 2006 have been fully used in the syllabi of the courses. The course materials and instructor manuals follow the design and structure of the IMO model courses. The courses are designed with the practical touch that builds in them strong theoretical foundations. These are taught by specially selected faculty who bring to the class room a wide range of practical and the theoretical background. The objective is to arm the seafarers with the state-of-the-art professional techniques that may be practical in analysing complex situations in dynamic and challenging environment.
This syllabi of the training for Cadets consists of those parts of the scholastic education which are very relevant to marine applications, in addition to the nautical subjects, which cover most of the basic topics of the syllabi up to the levels required for the Class 1 CoC’s, thereby making it relatively easier to progress with their careers, rather than spend long periods of tuitions and preparations at each stage before passing the examinations.
The training also gives the candidates preference in gaining employment and issue of the SRB (Seaman’s Record Book), which is mandatory for proceeding to sea.
The training is a mix of theoretical coaching and practical training, with encouragement in sports events to develop competitiveness.
The Cadets’ course is of six months duration and the GP-III of three months duration.
