IMS was established in 1996 to provide maritime training to seafarers. The syllabi and training of the courses are in accordance with the STCW (Standards for Training, Certification and Watch-keeping) for Seafarers, in addition to other marine value added professional courses, and those requested by various Ship Managers for specified trading, machineries and equipment. IMS was approved by the office of Director General Port and Shipping Wing, (DGP&S) Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Government of Pakistan in July 1997.
